Fast-Fold Projection Screen
Updated June 20, 2026 · Reviewed by Shorim Haniffanshoib, Head of Editorial — IT Strategy & Enterprise
A fast-fold screen is a portable frame projection screen: aluminium tubes fold out and lock into a rectangular frame, the screen fabric attaches to the frame with snap fasteners, and the whole assembly stands on a pair of legs. Its sizes go far beyond a tripod screen — typically from about 2 metres to more than 6 metres wide — which makes it the standard for seminars, conferences, ballrooms, and event stages. The fabric comes in two kinds: front projection (an opaque matte white surface, with the projector on the audience side) and rear projection (a translucent fabric, with the projector placed behind the screen). Rear projection hides the projector and its cabling from the audience and lets presenters walk in front of the screen without casting shadows, provided there is clear space behind the screen for the required throw distance. Because the frame is large, setup is usually a two-person job done before the event, including setting the leg height so the bottom edge of the image is visible from the back rows. Compared with a tripod screen: a tripod sets up faster with one person and suits meeting rooms; a fast-fold is for large rooms that need a wide image. See also screen aspect ratio and screen gain.
